As
a fiber artist, my goal is to articulate the marriage between the traditional
craft of quiltmaking with the visual imagery of artmaking. My work is
the exploration of the relationship between image, abstraction, fragmentation,
and integration. This relationship is expressed by using the processes
of surface design, collage, and quiltmaking. One element of my artmaking,
is the development of imagery and the transferring of these visual representations
onto fabric. I dye, paint, and transfer Xerox and photographic images
onto cloth. Pieces of paper, fabrics, objects, and thread are then assembled
to create a rich pattern of textures by the layering of images; whereby
the cloth becomes the visualization of my mark making. Through my artmaking,
I strive to find my true voice. I strive to develop a rich complexity
of surfaces while exploring imagery that alludes to my experience as
a woman, and to my relationship with the world around me and the world
within.
